I’m sure you guys have heard a lot about this, and I think it’s a good thing. And it’s evidence (hopefully) that Democrats will have to do a little “soul searching” along with the Republicans.

The exit polls don’t show anything overwhelming but you could argue looking at them that Americans’ frustration was just as much (or maybe more) with Congressional ethics than it was with the war in Iraq. It’s evident that the Democrats gained the majority of the House by running a slew of moderate candidates and when those moderates showed up, they a) were going to support the guy that worked their tail off to support them (Hoyer) and b) weren’t going to support the guy with his own ethical problems.

I don’t necessarily think this is a commentary on Pelosi’s lack of pull, but I think it at least illustrates she’s not going to get EVERYTHING she wants; and also (especially with Lamont’s solid defeat) that being a “let’s bail” Democrat is not any better than being a “stay the course” Republican when it comes to Iraq.

House Democrats back moderate Hoyer as majority leader
