It’s funny how liberals want to include everyone, and yet divide everyone into little groups. Remember, the Latin root word of “diversity” is the verb divertere, which means to “turn in different directions” (e.g. turn the people away from each other).

“Commencement weekend is hard to plan at the University of California, Los Angeles. The university now has so many separate identity-group graduations that scheduling them not to conflict with one another is a challenge. The women’s studies graduation and the Chicana/Chicano studies graduation are both set for 10 AM Saturday. The broader Hispanic graduation, “Raza,” is in near-conflict with the black graduation, which starts just an hour later.” ….

Liberals Want a Salad Bowl Rather Than a Melting Pot

  • It’s a constant dichotomy with Civil Rights in general. It’s confusing to say, “We want to be given special treatment, and want our difference celebrated as long as you don’t say that we’re any different.”

Affirmative action garners that confusion and having services in languages under than English is equally confusing. This story just illustrates the failure in multiculturalism and making sure “diversity” is celebrated.

Hopefully this is going to start going away…what if you’re half black and half hispanic? Which graduation do you go to. Do you piss off Mom or Dad…you go to both…what if you’re mixed race and gay…that’s three.

The whole “big and impersonal event” line is stupid. What about the individual College or Department commencements? Doesn’t it make more sense to split by area of study than race or sexual orientation?
