The Politico has released an article targeting Thompson’s weak spots with regard to conservatism. Although he has been a lobbyist and trial lawyer, I don’t think that that will cause him any problems with the conservative base of the GOP; but, the fact that he voted for McCain-Feingold may cause him some problems in the beginning before he puts out his explanation or apologizes for his vote. I believe that conservatives are so desperate for a true social and fiscal conservative who is a true leader that they will overlook a lot, with the exception of abortion, of which Thompson has made a few comments that he will have to explain. I am really looking forward to him getting into the debate.
